District commissioner for the black gold area for Girl Guides, Megan Lingelbach, said that for the time being things are suspended.

"As a district, we get all of our directions from our national board. So all across Canada, we decided that for the safety of our girls, our leaders, and our volunteers that we were suspending all guiding programming."

That includes trips, camps, and cookie sales.

"We are hoping to get back to regular meetings come fall."

Guiding has changed greatly over the years. The programs they do now are very girl driven.

"We do a lot of what the girls want to do. There is a lot of focus on life skills. They learn about money, how to cook and clean, camping skills, and entrepreneurship skills as well due to the cookie sales."

They were not able to do their normal door to door cookie sales this year. Fortunately, many corporate groups came together and supported girl guides.

"Canadain Tire here in Estevan took all of our mint cookies and sold them for us. In Regina and Saskatoon, London Drugs and Save on Foods took our spring cookies."

The cookie sales make up a majority of the funding for their programming.

"There would have been tens of thousands of dollars sitting basically with us unable to do anything with them."

Registration is open at this point in time and you can register online.

"We are always looking for volunteers and leaders. If there are any women out there that want to get involved with an organization that is very much working to empower young women then we defiantly want you to come on board."
