The Habitat for Humanity has been leaving some big impressions in the community and as they look forward towards their next build, it's quickly becoming time to choose the next partner family. The Habitat will be holding a homeownership information session here in Estevan.  We talked with Doug Barnstable to get the details.

"For those people who would be interested in owning their own home, if you earn between 32,000 and 65,000 annually before taxes and have lived in Canada for more than 3 years and Estevan 2 years and also have a regular and reliable source of income for more than one year and interested in paying a zero interest zero down payment mortgage at 25% of your total income and are willing to contribute 500 hours of sweat equity. You could be eligible to apply for a Habitat Estevan partner family mortgage."

If a person already owns their own home they would not be eligible to apply for a Habitat mortgage nor would you be able to apply if you were looking at building your own home. It's focused on people who are not eligible for a down payment or have a difficult time getting a down payment together for a typical conventional mortgage.

"The home that we are starting in June will be completed by the end of October in our initial time table but the information session takes place on March the 23rd at the Days Inn Fireside room. That will start at 1 PM with registration and at 1:30 the presentation will begin, it will last about 90 minutes and will involve the presentation along with question and answers following."

Anyone who would like the chance to apply for a habitat mortgage MUST attend this meeting.

"The one thing that is important is you must attend the information session, someone from your family needs to be aware of the commitments you will be making in order to enter into this mortgage so its important to attend the session to get that information."
