Habitat for Humanity Estevan has seen a few changes this year, Doug Barnstable, "Early in the New Year, we had some new volunteers we had to add to our steering committee and volunteer support. Individuals who are moving onto other areas they wanted to be volunteering in. So we added a new treasurer Tracey Schiestel, family selection person Fay Harris, and a public relations coordinator Kendall Lasooke. As well as other staff that will be helping out in our volunteer support side."

In an effort to have the money they need fundraising initiatives were in full swing, "We started initiating some fundraisers earlier in the year, actually in March and April we started our cash calendar sales and the prizes were ordered throughout May."

Barnstable added they still had some finishing touches on the first build, "We also had some work we had to finish at the house, that we had completed at the end of November of 2017. Our build number one, and that involved some exterior barging on the above ground basement walls, and we did that in May."

Habitat for Humanity took part in many community fundraisers, "Also in May, we had an ice cream booth at Savour the Southeast event. Also, we had later on in the summer, two gratitude Tuesdays at Mr. Mikes on August 14th and 28th. And a dunk tan fundraiser at Mr. Mikes slow pitch tournament on August 18th."

"In July we also received a grant from the Affinity local board, it was put towards our build number 2 is what we are calling the next construction program, that we're looking to begin hopefully in June of 2019." Barnstable continues about the generosity of the Estevan people.

In regards to what the crew of volunteers are doing right now, Barnstable adds, "Currently were contacting previous gifts in kind and funding partners from build number 1 who would like to be involved with us on house number 2."

"Poker tournament we held a fundraiser on November 3rd, at the Elk's club. And we are working on other fundraisers coming up that have yet to be scheduled. That's sort of a recap."

Barnstable adds what the final process in like, "We're working with Regina Habitat, they are our affiliate, and we work together with them on the family selection process. So we're just working with them to put a timetable together to look at the family selection. We've been hoping to do that sooner, but there are a lot of things happening through the Regina affiliate as well that have taken a lot of the time for people that would need to come to our site to do the presentations required for the applications can be released to the community. As soon as we get an update and a schedule on that we will be letting people know about that."

Awareness has been a large part of the Habitat for Humanity Program in the Energy city, "We do have half a dozen interested people that have expressed their desire to pick up applications when they're available. Which has increased significantly from the first year we had our applications released for build number 1. I think that particularly reflected the awareness of Habitat in the community at that time, versus the awareness now. We're looking forward to additional people as well as we hold public awareness meetings. And release those applications forms hopefully in the New year."
