Habitat for Humanity held another one of there signature fundraising poker tournament over the weekend. We talked with organizer Doug Barnstable just before it started to find out more about the event.

"Today we're doing a fundraiser with a poker tournament at the Elks club. We have up to 100 players invited to come, we don't know how many will actually show up until they come but we will be starting at 1 o'clock and we will be giving out total prize money of a maximum of 5000 dollars, depends on the number of players as to how much but 40% of the entry fees go towards habitat and 60% goes towards the prize money for the players."

As the patrons started to pile in through the doors we asked what kind of turn out they can expect for a tournament like this.

"We have done two of these previously and there typically in the 60 player range, were not too sure what we will have here today, there are lots of other things going on right now in the community so we will have to see."

Proceeds raised from the poker tournament go towards the habitats next build which is scheduled to be started in June.

"Hopefully we're looking to start the next build on June the first, in the next 2 weeks on the 23rd we will be having a meeting in Estevan at the Days Inn fireside room for people interested in applying to becoming a partner family, there are certain requirements they have to meet, so that meeting really gives them the opportunity to find out what those are. If they feel like they are eligible they can pick up an application, they will have a week to get that application into us. Following that we shortlist the applicants."

The Habitat is holding another fundraiser through March and April which is there Cash calendar, they are really looking forward too it and can't wait to get there build started in June.
