Producers in Saskatchewan are working hard to get their crops harvested.

"Provincially 7% of the crop is in the bin and 7% is swathed or ready to straight cut which is well ahead of the 5 year average of about 4% combined. The bulk of that harvest is coming from the south part of the province where producers have been in the field for several weeks now," explained Acting Cropping Management Specialist Shanon Friesen.

"The Southeast has 11% of the crop combined, that is well ahead of the 5 year average of about 6%. Overall its mainly due to the dry conditions and the lack of moisture that we've had. Crops have been drying down so harvest has been able to go fairly well for us, we haven't really had much rain although some of those delays really have only go on for about a day or two."

Even though July was really dry for the Southeast, August has seen some rainfall.

"It slowed us down a little bit but certainly not enough, most producers are expecting to be back in the fields over the weekend," she stated.

The prices for wheat and canola have increased for this year.

"We have heard that wheat is at quite a high price this year as well as canola so for these producers who are lucky enough to get some yield off their fields, hopefully they are able to take advantage of some of the higher prices."

"All depending where you are in the region of course crop yields very anywhere from well below average to even slightly above average, that all depends on if you lucked out and were able to get some moisture throughout the year. Quality has been good to excellent so far which is a good thing for us, we've had several falls where it continued to rain throughout harvest and we had a lot of issues with down grading due to disease and moisture as well. This year other than a few reports on smaller sized seed as well as some lighter bushel weights the quality is better."
