The Department of Highways is busy doing construction work on area highways this summer.

“We're doing quite a bit of substantial work west of Weyburn on Highway 13,” said David Marit, Minister of Highways and Infrastructure. “In fact in some places, we're adding a gravel base and putting asphalt on top. And in other places, we’re grinding out asphalt and doing what we call a mill and fill.”

Work has recently wrapped up on Highway 35 south of Weyburn.

“We’ve done some significant work on Highway 35, but obviously we needed it, it was on our schedule to do it,” he noted.

He added that another major project will begin soon.

“I’m excited about the 6 and 39 project, and getting that underway,” said Marit. “We’re just in the preliminary design stage, we’re going to start a couple of passing lanes south of Regina down towards the junction of 39 where it goes to Moose Jaw.

Marit also reminded that drivers must slow down to 60 km/h in construction zones.
