The students put on an open house to showcase our art gallery. We had the grand opening with representatives from the city as well as staff and SCC members to showcase all the students hard work.

Waylon Klix SCC representative:

The first Hillcrest Elementary Art Show and Sale is officially open. As I arrived at Hillcrest, both as an SCC representative and proud artist’s parent, I was ushered into the converted computer lab room. I was amazed at how much it looked like a gallery, works of art from the entire school filled the walls and counters. The vibrant colours reinforced the cheerful atmosphere of the event. Mayor Ludwig and Councillor Frank were in attendance along with representatives from the museum, art council, and art gallery. With punch, snacks, a few words from representatives and a ribbon cutting all led by Principal David Gillingham the event felt like a real gallery opening. Of course none of this would have been possible without dedicated efforts by Hillcrest’s Community Education Liaison. Sara Pippus, Teacher Melanie Young and the Estevan Art Gallery’s, Karly Garnier. Garnier spent an entire day at the school working with all the students to produce their beautiful pieces. She even returned to work with students who were absent to ensure they would not miss out. Once completed the works of art were mounted and framed giving them a truly professional quality. As at many galleries these works are not just for your viewing pleasure but are also available to purchase. The funds raised will be used to build a new playground which will benefit both the school and community for a long time. Community is a keyword to this event. The entire community is invited to purchase these works of art with the school showing the pieces to the public on Thursday, April 6, from 9-12. It is our hope that these pieces will be purchased and be placed in offices, homes, and institutions to be enjoyed for years.

Mayor Roy Ludwig:

Councillor Frank and I had the opportunity to attend the Art Show and Sale at Hillcrest School this afternoon . The Art Work the students did was fantastic! The students' parents will get to purchase the art work on Tues and Wed evening, with any left over art on sale Thursday morning. The proceeds will be donated to playground equipment and other improvements. I would like to thank Principle Gillingham, the teachers, staff, volunteers, students as well as the Art Gallery staff for all their help in making this worthwhile show such a success. Thanks to all involved! Thanks also to Councillor Travis Frank for his support!
