It was an evening full of family fun at Hillcrest School. Sara Pippus, the Community Education Liaison at Hillcrest school shares, "We held a family night at our school tonight. It was a pumpkin carving night and we have about 30 families that came out with their kids. We just wanted to provide an opportunity for them to carve pumpkins with their families, do some face painting, have some spooky treats, we had some great Halloween books and things like that, just a variety of door prizes from the city. It’s been a really good turn out, it was a lot of fun. Families coming out and enjoying themselves which is what we’re trying to teach and also what we’re trying to model is just having a great time with family, so that’s kind of the goal of tonight and by the looks of things, it was a great turnout and a lot of fun."

Pippus explains, "All of the funds that were brought in tonight are going to the United Way. This was our big United Way fundraiser, we want to give back to them because they support our breakfast program throughout the year and we wanted to do something fun this year to raise funds for them. All the funds will go to that cause, we're very excited about that because we’ve had a great turn out. We’re just around the $800 mark or a little bit better and that’s what will be taking to the United Way with us this year."

"The people who put this event together is our Community Education Liaison, we also worked with the leadership group here in our school of grade 7 and 8 students who signed up for that and Kristy Johnson is in charge of them. We all work together and plan events together so that way we have lots of help and lots of volunteers, that way we make it a great event for everybody and that way nobody has to work too hard."

She adds, "We would also like to think the families who came out tonight. Everybody seemed to have had fun and it’s nice to see families enjoy each other and get to know each other. It’s a nice way to for families to get to know the staff as well. We also would like to thank Cookie Mama for providing the refreshments for tonight."

They will be presenting the donation this weeked at the United Way Telethon.
