The City of Estevan received word on Tuesday morning that insurance has not been approved for the necessary upgrades to be made on the Civic Auditorium.

"Unfortunately our insurance carrier finally got back and they will not insure the Civic, they will insure it until the end of the month but it has to stay closed, after that no more insurance," explained Estevan's Mayor, Roy Ludwig.

According to their insurance carrier, the Civic was deemed as a substandard non traditional risk.

"They didn't get into a lot of explanation. After they took their time and went over everything we had given which was both engineering reports, they decided that they didn't feel comfortable in continuing with the insurance."

"We'll have a discussion at council on Monday and we will go from there. As we mentioned, If we couldn't get the insurance we were not moving forward and that's where we are right now," Ludwig concluded.

Discover Estevan will have more reaction and comments to follow later on Tuesday afternoon.
