The residents of Creighton Lodge are looking forward to the upcoming Estevan United Way Telethon. It's an opportunity to raise funds for many member agencies in the area, of which Creighton Lodge, is one.

"Creighton Lodge is an enriched living facility," shared Co-manager, Shelly Veroba. "We have 47 seniors who live here and we provide a socially invigorating atmosphere, nutritional meals, and a safe living environment for the seniors that live here."

The Estevan United Way provides funds for a variety of uses at the facility.

"This year we are using some the United Way funding to look at getting a podiatry chair so the people who live here can have foot care. Sometimes we do use some of the money for capital projects but we try hard to use most of the money to enrich the lives of the seniors who live here."

"They've helped provide the extra special things for the residents. We do things like outings which keep them social in the community. We will also do exercise programs. We pay some of the entertainers to come and entertain and that money comes from United Way funding."

Funding goes towards outings, activities in the home, providing landscaping, as well as snacks.

"Sometimes we'll get the Smile van and go to the movies. Other times we'll attend funerals. This year we did our first ever Casino trip. We went out to White Bear and we thought we'd make that an annual event."

Residents also got the opportunity to tour around and see some of the farms in the area.

"The activities are such an important part of their daily lives because a lot of seniors who live on their own are isolated and even though family members try their best, by living at Creighton Lodge, we become like a family unit."

She added that the funding from the United Way is very important to continue these types of activities for the residents.

The Telethon runs from October 26th at 8 am to October 27th at 5 pm.
