A successful inaugural Whiskers and Wine gala was held by the Estevan Humane Society Friday evening, with droves of Estevan residents filling the Beefeater Plaza. In fact, the meal tickets were sold out before the event began.

Board President Eric Salmers noted that the numbers were around what they expected.

"We had over 100 tickets sold, so that was a success for us. We've had a lot of auction and silent auction items donated as well."

He also gave glimpse into how the night ran.

"We had a magician just walking the crowd and doing some table magic. Supper started at 7, and at 8 the live comedy show. Then the auction started at nine.

Doug Arden provided the comedy and magic, with his mix of stand up and ventriliquisim.

"It turned out really good. I know that it was a busy weekend for everybody, so I'm happy that it turned out this way. It'll be great for the shelter," Salmers expressed, adding that they plan to build on the success next year.
