The Kinsmen and Kinettes of Estevan are pleased to share that the ice is almost ready at their new outdoor rink at the Kin Park.

"Our plan right now is to open up on Saturday," shared Park Committee Member with the Kinsmen, Derek Wilson. "Right now we're working on finding some matting or felt I guess you could say, for a walkway to change-shack over to the rink. We're not quite ready yet. We just put our logo in last night so we need a few more floods but other than that, it's looking really good. We will be open on Saturday no matter what."

"It was a struggle for the first little while there because of the warm weather but now that it's cooled down, we've got quite a few floods on it."

He adds that the new rink is bound to be popular with the public, especially with the younger kids and he asks that public to be respectful while using the ice.

"I imagine there's going to be quite a few people skating on it over the holidays. Just share the ice. There's going to be young kids out there with skates and sticks. It's a public rink, just be considerate of others. And if you're a first time skater, remember to wear a helmet and other than that, just enjoy the rink."

He mentioned that it is a wonderful thing to see the rink being used after a long time of planning and construction.

"It feels great to finally see things moving forward at the rink. It's going to be a great thing for the public to be able to get on it. It's a remarkable facility. It's quite an honour to see an outdoor rink like that in a community like Estevan."

"I just want to thank all the sponsors and everybody who helped contribute to make this rink a success. Thanks to the Kinsmen and the Kinettes for all your hard work and it's going to be a great year for the rink."

Wilson also shared that they are looking for volunteers to help with maintenance with the ice. Those interested can call him at 306-461-5543.
