A glance at the roads around the southeast will quickly indicate that motorcycle season is right around the corner.

However, before you pull out your unit out of the garage and fire it up, there are a few things you should keep in mind. According Corporal Craig Park with the Estevan RCMP, you still need to keep an eye on the weather.

"We still have frost and stuff in the mornings, and ice still exists, so riders beware. Be careful," he said, also reminding people to ensure they have all their safety equipment, such as helmets and gloves.

"With drivers as well, just be aware again that it is that time of year. Bike season is coming up on us, it won't be uncommon to see the one headlight versus two coming at you on the roadway again."

"Sometimes they are less visible in the blind spots, so just make sure you take those extra precautions at intersections in and around the city. A lot of times, with bikes or even pedestrians and pedal bikes, there's a lot more activity on the street as it warms up. Be aware in the intersections, and take the extra time to make sure you do a good scan of your surroundings," Park added.

He also recommended that it's not a bad idea to take your bike in for a proper tune up before you hit the road.
