During the winter months, snow can be a real challenge to remove from the roads especially in a rural setting. However, sometimes the issue is not too much snow but to little. We contacted David Hoffort who is the Reeve with the RM of Benson to get his thoughts on how the winter was treating them so far and to our surprise, they are hoping for a bit more snow.

"The Snow in our area is very very welcome, we have a bit right now and the plows have been out for maybe the last couple of weeks but nothing serious.  In the town of Benson which the RM looks after we welcome the snow, in fact, we need snow for our runoff. Yes, the guys have been out the last couple of weeks, they appreciate being out because they have been stuck in the shop doing repair work and the hours get a little long in there they tell me, so they get happy when they can be out on the roads for a few days."

It has been snowing there but according to Mr.Hoffort, the snow is few and far between and not exactly what the RM was hoping for.

"We got a bit of snow but the last little bit we got was mainly fluffy snow probably not a whole lot of moisture in it. It does continually drift with the winds. there are areas we have to look after but so far its just been not a big deal so far."

besides the snow, the RM does have some plans to resurface and build a few new roads, along with putting out some tenders for a new grader and a few new tractors but all this will have to wait for final confirmation when the RM does its budget in March.
