It was truly a community effort that brought everyone together to light up the Lampman Nursing Home, and on Saturday, it all came together.

"It was an unreal response from the community," explained Twyla Quantrill who organized the effort.

"We had a soup and sandwich lunch. Everything from the bread to the rent of the hall, all of that was donated. And we fed almost 100 people. The Hospital Auxiliary, they donated pies. Everything was donated, right down to the cold cuts."

They managed to raise approximately $4,500 to buy lights and other Christmas decorations from the lunch and other general donations. Local businesses who weren't able to donate money to the effort, either donated their services or time to help set up the decorations.

"Businesses were donating their picker trucks. Anything to get up to the top of the trees. It was the entire community."

"We purchased a new nativity for people who have passed either from the community or residents and we got the school to build us a stable."

Canadian Tire in Estevan supplied over 15000 lights and decorations.

"Canadian Tire was unbelievable in what they did for us. We got pretty much everything there. They gave us a discount, we told them how much money we had to work with and Trent did just wonderful."

The decorations went up on Saturday with the help of the Lampman Health Care Auxiliary, the Lampman Fire Department, the Lampman Lions Club, the Wellness kids from Lampman School, and others in the Community that donated their time. The Harvest Cafe provided a lunch for the volunteers. The residents enjoyed every minute of the decorating as they went window to window to watch. And as Quantrill explained, that's what it's all about.

"Just to make things a bit brighter for everyone, sometimes Christmas is hard. We wouldn't be where we are in it wasn't for our seniors."
