Estevan and area is under a blanket of snow right now and many RCMP detachments are asking drivers to be careful if they have to venture out on the roads tonight.

"All you have to do is look out the window and you know that winter driving conditions exist today," shared Cpl Craig Park with the Estevan RCMP.

And outside Estevan, it's not much different.

"The main highways are in better condition that everything else," explained Carlyle's Staff Sargent Darren Simon. "But we do know that there's a bit of freezing rain going on so that's just going to make things miserable. We recommend people take time, don't drive fast and give yourselves lots of time at intersections even if you have the right of way, in case some one else has a hard time and can't stop."

"I see vehicles driving a little slower than normal which is good."

He added that drivers just need to take the proper precautions.

"We're in Saskatchewan, snow in the winter is not unexpected. In winter driving, just take your time. Make sure you have the proper tires. Winter tires I think, are a must anywhere in the country. They can help you with your stopping as well as your gripping."

Cpl Park also shared that visibility is still poor in many areas in and around Estevan.

"The highways have been cleared but until it stops snowing, it's going to be terrible driving conditions."

"Plan ahead, give yourself extra time, reduce your speed according to conditions. The last thing we want is people rushing about in terrible driving conditions."
