If you want to see change, go out and make it happen.

That's exactly what Estevan's Economic Coordinator, Dwight Fitzgerald Bramble is on a mission to accomplish.

The St. Vincent and Grenadines native, who has been working and living in Estevan since 2017 is preparing to head home to run for the New Democratic Party(not in any way affiliated with the Canadian political caucus) in East Kingstown, a place very close to Bramble's heart.

"From a very young age, I've always been given opportunities to represent," he said, "whether it's in school or sports whether it's representing my community or country in soccer."

Due to being such a notable citizen in St. Vincent, a lot of people have gotten to know who he is over the years. That connection he still has to his native land has now led to him having the chance to follow a new path in life.

He said he enjoys calling into radio shows back home and that people took notice of his ideas and wanted to see him in a leadership role. It also came as a benefit that the leadership for the opposition in St. Vincent(NDP) was stepping down giving others a chance to run for the position.

Bramble left St. Vincent in the year 2000 to become his country's deputy ambassador in the United States, was in South America as an ambassador for some time, and then in 2012, he moved to Regina and as previously mentioned to Estevan in 2017. However, as the saying goes, there is no place like home.

"It just so happened that constituancy is where I spent a lot of my time and played soccer in that community and things like that."

Bramble was selected to be the leader in East Kingstown and due to taking this postion he will be leaving Canada to assume his new position. The process he said, has been interesting.

"We're thinking the election is going to be anytime within the next six months... it's really a humbling feeling, just going through all of the preparations and putting a team of people around me, a very brilliant team, I think that was just God's guidance leading me to the right people."

The campaign is going well at this time, with his supporters expressing huge excitement in him heading back to the island and interacting with the people.

Due to COVID-19 getting back to St. Vincent could pose a few challenges, but Bramble expects to be back in the near future and expressed that he will truly miss the city of Estevan.

"I'm hoping that will happen sooner rather than later because I have to go home and get on the ground and campaign... As soon as I can get home I think I'll be on the way. Unfortunately I'm going to be leaving Estevan but one of my objectives is to, when I become a government minister, one of the things I'm going to push very strongly for is to establish an official relationship with the city of Estevan."

Bramble is happy with his time spent here, and is thankful to the community for being so welcoming. He said a big part of who he has become as a person in recent years is in thanks to his time in Estevan.

Being that he is so well travelled he has been able to learn a lot of very helpful things in his life, and he wants to take those lessons back to his people. He hopes these things can lead to a bright future for his country.

"The one thing that I want to take back to my people on St. Vincent and the Grenadines is that our people are very talented if given the opportunity our people can be the best at anything we can do."

In his years of living and working amongst many different cultures around the world, Bramble has come to the conclusion that his people are the best in comparison to other countries and other people. He wants to take that message home and express to his people that nobody is better than them.

His greatest goal for his country is to get their young people involved in their communities and the growth of their country in the future. He wants them to know their future is limitless and that they can do anything they put their mind to and wants them to have the right steps in place to make that happen.

"Once given the opportunity, the sky is the limit"
