Estevan's MLA, Lori Carr has a new role within the Government of Saskatchewan. She will be working as the new Legislative Secretary to the Minister Of Finance, Donna Harpauer.

"I'm pretty excited. Legislative Secretary to the Minister of Finance I think is a pretty big position. I'll get the opportunity to sit in on meetings with her. I'll have the opportunity to meet with stakeholders and help move the province forward in a positive fashion."

"First of all, I think I'm going to get to the table and see exactly what my role is going to be before I insert myself too much and find an opportunity to see where I fit."

"We're on our three-year plan to get back to balance so having the opportunity to have sat on treasury board for the past couple years, I get to see all of the work that goes into that. This will give me a chance to sit at some different tables and have a bit more of a say, a bit more of an input on what is going to happen going forward to actually keep it on that track."

Carr admits that this role won't be an easy one.

"If money isn't coming in and we're falling short, you either cut programs or you raise taxes or find other ways of generating revenue. Both of which are not very popular. I think we've tried to strike a fairly fair balance over the past couple years to get back to balance. Hopefully going forward, things will cooperate with us such as the price of oil."

She added that the southeast is a major economic driver in the province, she is happy to be a voice in the government for the area.

"While I understand the need to be provincial-wide, I want to ensure that the needs of southeast Saskatchewan are taken care of at the same time."
