On Monday, April 16th, a lost American man found himself at the North Portal Border Crossing and left with more than he expected.

"At about 11:30 am, we received a call from the Canada Border Services Agency," explained Cpl. Craig Park, "that they had a male from the US detained. It appeared that he had shown up at the port a little lost, looking for directions and they noted at that time that he showed some signs of impairment. They ended up detaining the person and we got called."

"Once we got in our investigation, it was determined that he was impaired and he was arrested and brought back to Estevan where he provided two samples breath."

The samples provided were almost three times the legal limit.

The 48-year-old North Dakota male was arrested and will be back in Estevan at the Provincial Courthouse on June 4, 2018.

Park added that both agencies, the CBSA and RCMP worked together on this investigation.

"Through both agencies, we entered into an investigation and then determines what happens from there. When they're at the Canadian port, you've entered Canada at that point. It is Canadian territory."

He added that this was a little out of the ordinary and it isn't every day that somebody arrives at the border without wanting to cross.

"He didn't intend to cross into Canada. To get somebody at 11:30 in the morning with those types of readings was unique."
