With the provincial budget being released April 10th, many were interested to learn just how the government was going to work cannabis taxation into their financial plans and just how much Saskatchewan is expecting to make from the sale of legal marijuana. The move is expected to generate hundreds of millions of dollars across the country with the federal government charging an excise tax on every gram sold and then the province charging PST or HST on top of that.

Well, it turns out Saskatchewan is not planning on anything, at least not right now. Finance Minister Donna Harpauer says other provinces are also struggling with what to do.

"Some (provinces) have showed revenues, some have showed a net expense and Manitoba, like us, I don't believe they booked anything on either side." said Harpauer Tuesday. "The uncertainty is huge and it's very uncharted territory."

Not knowing when the feds will actually legalize cannabis is the biggest factor right now. Harpauer says there will also be a start up cost to issuing licenses and initial inspections so any revenues that might be realized in this budget year, will likely be spent as fast as it comes in.
