In years past, the weather forecast has put a damper on the May long weekend. But, this year things should be different according to Regional Meteorologist John Paul Cragg.

"Over night lows and day time highs will continue to rise into the weekend," said Cragg, "A pretty nice long weekend is on the way, unlike many long weekends in the past where we've seen cool temperatures and rain."

The weekend will be nice for the most part with the sun out and temperatures hovering around twenty degrees.

"A slight drop in temperatures for Monday is expected thanks to the potential of rain. There also could be a small chance of thunder storms on Sunday and Monday ."

It is important to know when your outside in a thunderstorm with lightning it can be dangerous.

"Lightning kills more Canadians every year then any other type of severe weather," he added.

As summer approaches and the sun gets warmer, Cragg had an important reminder for those spending time in the sun light.

"It's important to make sure you protect yourself from UV rays. It's good to follow the UV index forecast because it will tell you what kind of sun screen you should be applying."
