Those who are waiting for the rains may not have to wait much longer.

"We're expecting rain to move in and continue raining pretty much for the whole week," explained Environment Canada's John Paul Cragg. "There could be a little bit of a reprieve on Thursday however, there is still a chance of thunderstorms moving into the area Thursday. And then Friday, a return to rain."

"Pretty much the whole week, there's a good chance of precipitation in and around the Estevan area."

As to how much we receive, that will depend on the thunderstorms we may or may not receive.

"A lot of this rainfall in the area throughout the end of this week is thanks to the potential for thunderstorm activity. General rainfall amounts in the southeast corner of the province could be around the 25-50 mm mark and potentially even more in thunderstorms."

"This rain will come in waves throughout this week so that is a very loose number at this point given the potential variability that thunderstorms bring in terms of precipitation. But best guess at this point would be between 25-50 mm over the next several days."

Cragg adds that because the rains are expected to last for a few days and not all fall in one day, the potential for flooding is low.

"The real issue with rainfall is intensity. So if you got under a really intense thunderstorm and a huge amount of rain came in a short period of time, that would be more of a worry. We do have the chance to see some severe thunderstorms in the area through the next few days so it's important to keep that in mind."

He notes that while the weekend shows clear skies right now, that could change quickly.

"There's still a chance of precipitation as we move into the weekend. There is still the chance of thunderstorm activity. Because of those thunderstorms and because they are very hard to predict well in advance, it doesn't look like a completely settled weekend."
