The Metis Federation of Saskatchewan is looking forward to a new year. They recently were the sponsor for a New Year's Eve party at the Estevan Legion and they are hoping it is just one part of growing their organization stronger in 2018.

"We are part of the Metis Federation of Canada," explained Leslie Sopp, one of the organizers of the event. "When Harry Daniels won the Supreme Court case in April, we decided to start anew."

The New Year's Even party was attended by over 100 guests.

"We had old time dancers and they were from Brandon, and we had jig dancers. It was quite fun for our first real party for a long time."

"It's under the Metis Nation of Saskatchewan for many years with the Harry Daniels case, it changed. The Metis Nation was no longer in existence in 2014, the government pulled funding. We're back up but we're going under Metis Federation of Saskatchewan."

Sopp has been involved with the Metis Society since she was young and she hopes that this year will be the start of something bigger.

"Now we started up again and we're hoping to go forward and become stronger."
