The hot weather has taken a toll on the water reserves of some towns around the southeast, and one town is restricting its citizens water usage because of it. The town of Midale is under a water restriction until further notice.

"The town of Midale is in a full water restriction right now, our reservoir is very low," said town administrative assistant Vanessa Lund. "So we're asking people to be careful with their water usage, to not water their lawns, to water their gardens very sparingly."

Midale is also asking people using their town truck fill to only fill trucks with water for human consumption. People who violate the order will get a warning, but once they get that warning they'll face fines of up to $1000.

"It's common for when it's hot," said Lund. "People obviously want to make sure their gardens are safe and their lawns are green, but it's much more important that we make sure that we have water to drink. We want to make sure we don't run out of water."

The hot weather has certainly contributed to the depletion of water supplies, with the Estevan area setting a record for daytime highs yesterday. The dryness of the summer has also likely contributed to the water supply being lower than usual.

"We notice people who water their lawns and there are puddles on the road," Lund said. "If you are going to water, just be careful. Use only what you need."

Lund added that the Midale Pool, which is open for bookings only at the moment, won't be getting refilled because of the water restriction, so if the water level sinks too low they may have to shut the pool down.
