It was back in summer when the Estevan Police Service announced that there would be a new bylaw officer. Now, a few weeks into the position, Josie Newton is filling the role quite well.

"She's certainly learning the roles and responsibilities of that position," explained Police Chief Paul Ladouceur, "but she's doing a phenomenal job."

"Sometimes that job's not well received by the community but it is a necessary position within the city, not the most popular at times. Nobody likes getting a parking ticket, nobody likes being told to cut their grass and things like that but unfortunately sometimes it comes to that."

however, with that in mind, the Police Chief think that she will fit in nicely within the community.

"She's doing a remarkable job. I have full confidence in her. I think she has a very level head on her shoulders and she'll make the right decisions using discretion appropriately."

"I'm looking forward to having her out there and I think she'll do great work."
