UPDATE: As of early Friday morning, SaskPower says that power has been restored to all of southeast Saskatchewan. However, some localities south of Glen Ewen and Oxbow will remain offline until repairs are successfully completed.

Power was knocked out across pretty much the entirety of southeast Saskatchewan thanks to the storm that rolled through Thursday afternoon, which included heavy rain, strong winds and large hail.

Power poles were left strewn across fields, leaving a tough task for crews to track down and repair each one.

"The main issue is that the heavy rain has flooded one of our substations in the area, the Boundary Dam switching station," related Jonathan Trembley with SaskPower, noting that this in turn resulted in tripping the entire station out.

Rumors that a tornado touched down near the plant are unconfirmed at this point, but Trembley noted that the flooding had resulted in a massive release of steam from the plant.

Currently, SaskPower has no timeline for restoration of the power.
