Despite a warmer than usual end to November, temperatures were actually below average for the month.

"It seemed like a pretty balmy November," shared Regional Meteorologist, John Paul Cragg, with Environment Canada. "The beginning of November, most of the province was quite a bit below average and thanks to the balmy end of November, we weren't too far below average by the time we finished."

"It was only below average by 1.5 degrees. And that was thanks to the beginning of the month where temperatures were quite a bit below average. Luckily, temperatures changed almost in the middle of the month and temperatures rose above average which brought us closer to average than we were at the beginning of the month."

"With a departure from normal of 1.5 degrees, it only puts the southeast at the 25th coldest November of 95 years of record."

"For temperature, in the southeast corner, an average November is around - 4.1 degrees, so the average temperature over a 24 hour period, averaged out over the whole month. The southeast corner, Estevan in particular saw a mean of - 5.6 degrees this particular November."

As for precipitation, in the southeast corner, we may have had a dry year, but we didn't break any records.

"Right now, as the end of November, there was 271.2 mm of precipitation that was recorded at the Estevan station at the Estevan airport. If there were no more precipitation, if nothing fell for the whole month of December, that would put 2017 as the third driest year on record. The driest year being 1961 with a yearly precipitation of 221.7 mm."

Cragg adds that the models are not showing a lot of precipitation for the the southeast in December,  but we are expected to see around 2 cm today.

Temperatures should be rebounding this week and currently, the weekend is calling for highs of 0 degrees.

Drivers are warned that temperatures and the small amount of snow that we saw today will contribute to some icy conditions on the roads.
