Since then, the Nursing Home Committee has only received one form of communication from the Ministry of Health and the Saskatchewan Health Authority in the form of a media release, which can be found below.

The Ministry of Health (MoH) works with the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) to prioritize the maintenance and replacement of health infrastructure in the province.

When prioritizing potential health capital projects, a number of factors are considered, including: facility condition and functionality, current and future service delivery needs, workforce availability, population growth, and industry and technology changes.

Approval of major capital projects depends on funding availability.  Major projects are considered each year during the province’s budget development process.

We recognize that this project is a high priority for the community of Estevan.  As such, it will be carefully assessed against other capital priorities across the province for funding.

We would like to commend the Estevan Regional Nursing Home Committee for all its efforts in raising significant funds towards this project.  We encourage you to continue working with the SHA on capital priorities in Estevan and surrounding area.

Estevan's Committee for the new nursing home was expecting to hear a reply as of February as to whether their plan would be approved or not. Check back for more updates when they become available.

**UPDATE**

We were able to talk a little more about this with Lori Carr who is the MLA for Estevan.

"With regards to the Estevan regional nursing home, this is a really high priority for myself. As the ministry looks at projects and the needs across the province, they are all prioritized by needs, but our committee has done some really really good work and has given some alternative options and we're looking at those very very closely. We have been looking at all kinds of options and have received the reports on cost avoidance by building new instead of maintaining the nursing home we already have so all of these things we are seriously looking at. Right now we have two RFP's out on some facilities that are in dire need one of them being in Grenfell. Those are facilities that are actually closed, people have been moved so we need to replace them. They are currently looking at an alternative to those, they are asking for requests for proposals, so maybe not all that unlike to what the Estevan Regional Nursing Home Committee is asking for so once that process has happened and we see where all that comes out I will be back at the minister saying this is where we are at with these, how can we make it work for Estevan."
