The streets of Estevan are looking cleaner since Operation Sweep happened last week.

"Operation Clean Sweep went without a hitch again," shared City Roads and Drainage Manager, Norm Mack "and we did a good job cleaning up a lot of garbage."

"The free weekend provided a lot of action at the landfill. There were 645 through the gates bringing loads for a total of 114 metric tonnes of garbage."

"It is a lot and if that helps clean up our city and make it look a little bit tidier, it's a wonderful event to hold every year."

He added that the weather may have played a small part in getting people out.

"It was a beautiful long weekend so that enticed more people to clean up their yards and get it to the landfill."

The City concentrated on different areas throughout the week. May 16th and 17th were days that people were able to put their organic garbage on their front driveway so crews could pick it up for them.

"A lot of people participated in front yard pick up. It just helps those folks that don't have a truck or a vehicle to get to the landfill to get some of that organic waste to the landfill."

"The City looks really good. We worked to that May Long Weekend to get the City cleaned up and make it look good and I think we did that. All we need now is a little bit of rain."
