Operation Clean Sweep is well under way, as City of Estevan employees and residents all pitch in to do their part in tidying up the streets and yards.

"It's going great. We've have people out and about on every corner in the City and at the entrances. Everyone's doing a good job, and the citizens are participating by having their garbage out front as we requested," related Parks Manger Rod March, who is one of the overseers of the program.

The next major step of the Operation is the free landfill access over the long weekend.

"That goes from May 19th to the 22nd for City of Estevan residents. We can't have those Freon appliances or hazardous waste of course, but basically it's for your organic garden waste and such, stuff that may have been missed throughout the week."

"It's an opportunity to clean up your yard and bring it all to the landfill for free," he explained.

It always feels great when things are looking good, and that applies to cities too. March shared some of the incentives behind Operation Clean Sweep.

"This is a city wide effort that was rejuvenated last year by myself and the Roads and Drainage Manger. We just want to get the message out there that we want to clean the city up, keep it clean, and we want to get citizens involved."

"It's just about public awareness and keeping the city clean," he added.

March concluded by noting that, as part of the initiative, they have 100 new litter containment systems that they will be placing throughout the city shortly.
