In an effort to take the next step in sustainable energy, the Pheasant Rump Nakota First Nation community recently installed a large set of solar panels.

"We recognized the need to address the power consumption that was happening at the main administrative buildings, as well as our headstart building and our water treatment plant, and we wanted to start addressing the increase in costs of electricity bills," stated John MacArthur, the Community Navigator, "The easiest solution for that would be to go into solar power generation, so that we can offset our power consumption."

They looked at monthly consumption costs, and did the math. The numbers quickly add up when projected out 20-30 years, and they hope that the long term investment pays off as both solar reliability and utility rates increase.

"The members (of the Pheasant Rump community) have been very positive and supportive of this effort. They understand that technology is something that we must recognize and include into our business and daily lives as much as possible, especially when it comes to saving money."

"The cost of living continues to go up, and our members feel that every day, so if we can conserve and minimize expenses, we can definitely enjoy life to a better quality," MacArthur added, noting the increased abilities and sustainability of solar technology gives him the confidence to invest in it.
