The Estevan Police Service was kept busy throughout the weekend, and through Sunday night as well.

"There were some thefts reported and suspicious activity in residential areas. A couple were reported by citizens...police responded, identified people in the area but there was no criminal activity that was noted. They were sent on their way but at least identified," shared Sergeant Tyler McMillan.

"Residents (were) reported that they'd intercepted culprits stealing stuff out of their yards. One (person) notably was arrested and, with no previous record, was dealt with alternatively" (using alternative measures instead of standard procedure).

Police also dealt with the report of the theft of wire from an industrial area on the east end of town. The incident happened in broad daylight on Sunday.

"We want people who have wire and property on the east end to double check their businesses. In this one, the owner interrupted the theft, the culprit did not get away with any property, but police are investigating that. They have a license plate, and believe we have identified who that is, so it's still under investigation," said McMillan.

Numerous people have received text messages recently that are scam-like in nature, with the Sergeant himself one of them, the messages claiming to be from Sasktel or some other organization.

"We want people to be aware of another scam, and to not click on anything that they're not aware of. If they have questions, (they are) to call Sasktel or call the police."

Officers also responded to multiple alarms around the city, but on each occasion, everything was found to be secure. In addition, members spent time cultivating a stronger relationship between the police and local establishments.

"This weekend, one of our businesses invited the police in to a staff meeting. We just do informal kind of education and answer any questions they have about over-serving and liquor laws, and different things like that. We appreciate businesses when they do that, and we invite any liquor establishment in the city to continue to do that, so we can work in a good partnership to make our streets safer altogether," McMillan added.

"On a happier note, there was a nine year old boy who located some property at the park on the Pleasantdale area of the city. He took it home, and had his dad bring him down to the police station where he turned it in. He did all that on his own, came in and gave the police information on where he located it and we'll be able to return that to the owners, in this case the City of Estevan."

As the weekend drew to a close, only one incident was dealt with by police.

"Members were dispatched a local convenience store for a possible impaired driver. The vehicle was located with a sober driver, however, the female passenger was found to be intoxicated and also on conditions to not consume alcohol," related Constable Danielle Stephanie, "She was subsequently arrested and lodged in cells until sober."
