Radiothon For Life Raises Over $104,000

Just when you think that southeast Saskatchewan couldn't possibly raise any more money for another worthwhile cause, residents stand up and show the world what it means to help our their neighbours.

Over $104,000 was raised at the 7th Annual Radiothon for Life. All of that money will stay right here and help out the St. Joseph's Hospital and the patients they serve.

"The generosity of the community and the hard work of the foundation just continues on," shared Greg Hoffart, Executive Director at the St. Joseph's Hospital. "It's something that's regular but we must never take for granted. It really does enable us and our staff and our physicians to do the good work they do serving our community. The equipment they buy and the capital improvements that are so very necessary."

He added that making sure the patients receive comfortable and excellent care at the hospital is their goal.

"That is and should remain our mission forever at St. Joseph's Hospital. It is all about the patients. That's who we're here for. The patients are why we work in healthcare, it's the one and only reason we have jobs in healthcare and that's who the focus need to be on."

"The next key to that is the staff at St. Joesph's Hospital. We have an extraordinary staff, the front line staff that tends to the patient needs. And that brings up why we're here. The equipment that is so necessary to allow our frontline staff to serve these patients. And the Hospital Foundation through the generosity of southeast Saskatchewan steps up time and time again."

The day saw several large donations from groups such as South East Eyecare, B&T Gunshow and Lorne and Charlene Hansen. Smaller donations, the ones that keep the Radiothon alive also came in at a steady pace all throughout the 12-hour event.

"We just can't thank our community enough. Over and over again, they respond to the need and what we have at St Joseph's Hospital is in very large part due to that generosity."

Medical equipment often comes with a large price tag. In fact, one chair for the CT department costs $12,500.

"The healthcare equipment, the new technology, the things that keep coming up to meet the needs, the healthcare needs to stay current, it is an awful expensive proposition that we're involved in. Because of the Hospital Foundation, we are able to mee those needs."

The Hospital will also be expanding their chemotherapy room to provide a more comfortable space for patients and with a surprise phone call, those naming rights were sold not long after that announcement was made.
