Heading into the latter half of this week, Environment Canada is forecasting a healthy dose of rain for Thursday and Friday. Although the timing of this latest precipitation isn't the greatest for farmers trying to get crops off, any rain will be a welcomed addition to a summer that has been bone dry.

"We are watching to see a low pressure system develop over the northern United States which we haven't seen for months," explained one of Environment Canada's Regional Meteorologists Terri Laing. "This system is expected to bring quite a bit of rain over the next week or so."

"Our upper pattern is shifting and we've been so use to having that big upper ridge that has been giving us that dry-hot weather. What we're seeing is a big upper trough that is digging over western Canada and what that does is brings low pressure systems that we haven't seen much through the summer. They will start tracking over the southern part of the prairies over the next couple of days."

Any where from 10-15 mm is expected to fall over the course of Thursday and Laing says these systems could produce even more on Friday and Saturday.

"It looks like quite an organized pattern. Technically we would call it a Colorado low just because of the way it forms but its forming closer to the United States border. I think we're going to see significant amounts out of these systems over the next while."
