The RCMP are releasing more information regarding the fatal car accident involving two of their own members.

"Last night at around 9:20 pm," shared Cpl Rob King 'F' Division's Media Officer, "Estevan RCMP responded to a single motor vehicle collision with a car approximately 1.5 km east of Lampman on Highway 361."

"Our initial investigation revealed that there were two occupants in the vehicle. A male passenger was transported from the area with injuries to Regina. And a 55-year-old male driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene."

"Both persons involved in the accident are members of the RCMP out of the Estevan detachment."

"Right now, what happened within the accident is still under investigation. We're still trying to figure out exactly what happned and why this vehicle went off the road."

"At this point, we're not going to identify the members' names. We're still in the process of contacting family members, troopmates, people who they had worked with over the years."

There are supports available to RCMP members such as the peer to peer program and Chaplaincy services during this difficult time.

"We would consider this a critical incident for the whole detachment and for all of our partners who worked with these members. We definitely want to support them as much as possible in their moment of grief and our moment of grief as well because many of us within the division know these members."

"Right now we put everything aside and support them and try and give them the opportunity to deal with this, bring in extra people to deal with the still existing workload that's there."

"There will be no real interruption in policing services for the area. We'll bring in extra people and offset those people who try to take some time off to deal with this whole situation. It's like losing a person you work with in any type of employment, it affects everybody."

The two members were not on duty at the time and were not driving an RCMP vehicle. Alcohol is not considered a factor.
