It's an issue that seems to be becoming a trend, and it's been noticed by local law enforcement.

"The scenario is, is there's multiple vehicles all stopping at an intersection. Often the car directly behind the lead vehicle, instead of stopping again at the stop sign, as soon as the one in front of them goes they just take it for granted that everything is clear," said Constable Daniel Gaignard with the Estevan RCMP, adding that it happens a lot on highways.

"That's not acceptable. Once that car in front of you goes, you still need to pull up to that proper stop position and come to a complete stop yourself before you proceed. We see a lot of people just take it as, 'I stopped right behind this guy, I've been here for a minute or two and I can see that everything is clear', and then they go."

"That doesn't count as a legal stop at that stop sign"

He noted that it could result in a lot of hazards being overlooked.

"If you don't come to that complete stop and check again, you may have cleared it in your head seconds earlier but things can change quite quickly. It's safest to stop, look again and then go."

The same consequences apply to this type of infraction as to simply not heeding stop signs, according to Gaignard.

"It's the same as running one completely in the first place, a $280 fine and points on your license."

He also shared that local law enforcement will be keeping a close eye on drivers in constructions zones, as 7 different motorists were clocked travelling over 60 kilometers per hour in those areas over the last couple of weeks.
