Local businesses are continuing to find a way to help get Estevan's first Habitat for Humanity build project completed.

On August 30th, The Remax Blue Chip Realty team in Estevan held a fundraising barbecue at Southern Plains Co-op.

"We raised over $1,000 from sales of hot dogs and hamburgers. That money is being donated to the Estevan branch of Habitat for Humanity," explained Linda Mack, Realtor with Remax in Estevan.

"As realtors we like to support the community in anyway we can, we like to give back to the community so we thought it was a good cause. Last year we chose summer games and this year Habitat, so we're hoping to do it each year and the partnership with Southern Plains Co-op works really well for us."

Habitat for Humanity also had representitives at the BBQ, but many volunteers were busy getting the project ot the next phase.

"They were good enough to come and support our barbecue and we did stop by their house after and filled them in on how much we raised, they were busy building and were up on the roof. We will probably do a check presentation with the next week," she stated.

"We really want to thank the community for coming and supporting the barbecue last Wednesday, it's amazing how quickly you can amass $1,000 from sales of hot dogs and hamburgers. We are really happy with the generosity of people, it was a free will offering and we had a good crowd out for it but we were pleasantly surprised with how much money was raised."
