As the mercury rises up, city crews in Estevan are keeping busy with maintenance due to the melting snow.

"Snow removal crews are continuing to blade and blow off streets in the city during regular hours. This serves two purposes, which is to get rid of excessive ruts and ice and to maintain the drainage catch basins and the curbs. That's something we will be working for the next few days," shared Roads and Drainage Manager, Norm Mack.

As well, with all of the warm up we got, drainage crews' main focus will be opening catch basins throughout the main arteries.

"The reason why we blade off some of the streets as close as we can to the pavement is to use it on our benefit. Sunshine burns off much of the ice throughout the day, so it helps us clear off some of the roads and get rid of the ice."

As well, resident has spotted city crews taking down Christmas decorations as their season is over.

On their radar, snow removal is their top priority at the moment. There are still work that needs to be done due to the three storms that we had in December. The Roads and Drainage division is also looking at overall drainage. Even though it's January, Mack said they want to be prepared.
