The Estevan Provincial Courthouse is getting a facelift.

"We have a number of renovations planned for the coming year," explained Nancy Cherney, Assistant Deputy Minister of Property Management Division with Central Services. "We're going to be doing some repair work to the cupola on the top of the building and repointing the exterior brickwork."

"It is a heritage building constructed in the 1930s so those things need some care and maintenance to make sure they are kept up and not allowed to fall into disrepair and allow for damage to the building to occur."

As well, they also have some work planned for the interior of the courthouse.

"We also have plans to replace the flooring in the courtrooms, the hallways, and the judge's offices inside of the building throughout 2018 as well."

"It really is intended to avoid damage so it's part of our regular maintenance and ongoing upkeep of the facility, particularly something like this where it is a heritage building. You always have to keep on top of those things."

"The work doesn't come cheap but it's an important investment. We do have a budget for it inside the Ministry of Central Services, we have an allocation for it. We're expecting the exterior work to cost somewhere around half a million dollars and the interior work, the flooring is a little over $200,000, somewhere in that neighbour."

"We're looking at that exterior work starting around September and be completed before the end of March 2019. And the interior carpeting, we'll be able to proceed with that over the course of the summer and into the fall period."
