Fire Safety is becoming a hot topic with the lack of rain in Estevan.

"People should be really cautious of their smoking materials and how they are starting those because that could have unintended consequences," explained Fire Chief Dale Fieser.

"Out in the province of BC there are severe fines in place for people that actually are caught in the act of discarding smoking materials outside the windows of moving vehicles."

The Fire Department has been busy for the past while.

"We've had a couple of wild land fires over the weekend. It's just a matter of making sure that everybody is extremely cautious when we are extinguishing cigarettes or smoking materials. Make sure that you are using ash trays do not throw the butts outside or out your window while you are driving," shared Fieser.

"Fires can also be caused by farming equipment and agricultural equipment coming into contact with a rock or some sort of friction where it be a and barring that's been super heated or came into contact with vegetation, it's so dry out there to the point where we have to watch our own vehicle exhaust because often times fire suppression equipment will start their own fires from vehicle exhaust."
