Recently, the Estevan Fire Department made an exciting announcement that involves one of the dedicated firefighters in the team.

Rick Davies has been a volunteer firefighter for the city for almost 17 years. However, he's now taking on the role of Deputy Fire Chief in the station.

"Previous to taking this job, I was the captain on the floor. I started off as a firefighter, then did pump operator for a while as well," he expressed.

Fire Chief Dale Feser has been working with him for countless call, training and more, and he saw the potential and his dedication through and through.

"We're so happy to have him come on board into his new role. When you got the amount of experience that Rick has, it becomes an asset in the office because you'll have a fundamental knowledge of the layout of the city, its infrastructure, and our internal operations."

He admits that it may seem different for Davies going in. Feser outlined that on the floor, you're dealing with fire suppression, rescue and extrication efforts. However, once you go into the office, administrative tasks are introduced like fire inspection, fire investigation and all the like. To help him ease into the transition, Davies will be trained accordingly through course in fire colleges.

"It's going to be a pretty neat transition to a role that deals with public engagement roles like getting press releases, talking to the community and doing some fire safety education.

People in the department are happy to see Davies take on a new challenge and they are all looking forward to work with him in a different capacity. He will be sworn into his role on January 16th, during the first City Council meeting of 2017.
