A warm, sunny Saturday was the setting for the 11th annual Coal Country Run, held down at the Woodlawn Park.

"It's a perfect day. I myself am in charge of the weather, so I got the weather for everybody, so you can thank me for that," co-organizer Peggy Rohatyn joked, "But we had a great day. People seemed happy with the course, that it was marked off good, and everything went without a hitch."

Attendees were able to start off with a yoga session get in peak shape for their trek, before setting off on the 5 or 10K. Once they returned to the cheers of those at the finish line, a hearty lunch and massage, as well as a health and wellness expo, were available. Then the kids set off for their own mini mile. Rohatyn also noted that it was one of their most well attended days.

The kids get on their mark for the Mini-Mile.

"I would say we're at about 165 counting the Mini-Milers," she said, with Debbie Knight, the other organizer adding, "And the mini milers are up this year from last year, probably double, so that's great because we love to see the kids come out and get them running and enjoying it too. It's a family deal."

All funds raised go towards the Fresh Air Fitness facility located in the park, and the ladies were happy with the estimated result.

"I expect that this will probably raise about $6,000, maybe even a little better. We put up our prices a bit this year, but only if you registered late. If you registered early it was actually less than last year. I would think, with the turnout we had, we're going to raise around $6,000 for Fresh Air Fitness," said Knight.

More events are in the works for the summer, proceeds from which will add towards purchases for the facility. Climbing and zig zag walls, and more equipment for the accessible area are among the items on the wishlist.
