The Salvation Army Food Bank has reported they are a little short when it comes to certain kinds of food. Specifically, they're in need of pancake mix and syrup, jams, coffee and tea, sidekicks, and canned stews and pastas.

Ronza Reynard, Family Services Coordinator with the Salvation Army, says that they've had an increase in the amount of food they've been giving away, and it's started to affect their stock.

"We've had a huge increase in the number of households accessing the food bank. In the month of January, we've went through about 5000 lbs of food, which is a very busy month for us, and so our shelves are low."

The increase in people using the food bank has led to some pretty substantial since the start of the winter, although the weather itself has not been the cause.

"I think we continue to see people who haven't been able to find full time employment, we have a number of people that access the food bank that are on some different programs with social services due to the inability to find work right now in Estevan, and we've had a number of people who have moved in to the community, and they've moved in and still not being able to find employment have had to come to us since they still need a little bit of help."

Food can be dropped off at the Salvation Army Food Bank through a number of programs around the city and in schools, or any time during the Salvation Army's regular business hours (10am-5:30pm Monday through Saturday).
