SaskEnergy is now accepting applications for their Tune-Up Assistance Program. The program helps low-income homeowners cover costs associated with inspections of their furnaces ahead of the winter.

Shannon Doka is with the Crown corporation. She explained the work, which is offered in a number of centres around the province, is done in conjunction with SaskEnergy Network members.

“We’ve put together with our local network of plumbing and heating contractors to provide some financial assistance on the home heating tune-up service,” Doka said.

The inspection includes a visual inspection of the heat exchanger, a look at the blower compartment, cleaning and lubricating the motor and fan, as well as testing the thermostat and furnace switch. The program also provides up to $100 for minor repairs, and if additional repairs are needed, the homeowner may qualify for up to $500 in credit for repairs.

The program is intended for households with a combined income of less than $68,000. Renters and rental properties aren’t eligible. You can read more information here.

Doka added while this program is available for select homeowners, it is never to early to get all furnaces checked out before winter arrives.
