The provincial crown corporation has announced a new program that will contribute roughly 100 Megawatts of clean energy to the provincial grid. Late last week SaskPower unveiled the Power Generation Partner Program (PGPP).

Thirty-eight businesses were approved for projects to facilitate and sell renewable energy back to the province. Twenty-three solar power projects and 15 flare gas sites will participate in the PGPP. It's another step for them to reduce carbon emissions and help reach their energy goals by 2030. SaskPower spokesperson Joel Cherry says it's an exciting time for the company.

"It's a two-year program and after that, we have an option for a third year, so we'll take a look at the program at that point as well," Cherry noted. "Over the life of the project, it could add anywhere from 70 to 105 Megawatts of renewable electricity to Saskatchewan's generation mix."

Four of the sites will be located in southeastern Saskatchewan. miEnergy Inc., Seitz Holdings Corp, Crescent Point Energy and Highrock Resources Ltd. were all approved for a part of the PGPP. The combined energy production could be enough to power approximately 20,000 homes.
