SaskPower has announced a partnership with Manitoba Hydro that would see the Saskatchewan buy an additional 215 megawatts of renewable energy from Manitoba.

The deal, which doesn't begin until 2022, would last 30 years. The energy would come from hydropower, which is more environmentally friendly than coal and will help SaskPower reach their goal of 40% emission reduction below 2005 levels by 2030.

SaskPower has announced several projects in recent months that will help them to achieve that goal, including a purchasing agreement with a large-scale wind power operation south of Assiniboia.
