Representatives of the Kinsmen and Kinettes and the Savour the Southeast committee gathered at Kin-Park for the official hand over of a rather significant sum.

The popular food and beverage event raised $43,000, all of which will go towards the finishing of the new rink at the park.

"We are absolutely thrilled with what has transpired here," shared James Jones, a member of the Kin Club.

"100 percent of the proceeds from this donation are going to go towards this project. We're really excited to announce that, as of June 20th, we will have our actual permanent boards arrive and they should be up before the annual Canada Day celebrations here in the park."

"We couldn't be more happy with what's happened here, we owe a tremendous thanks to the organizing committee and everybody that came out and supported us on May 13th," he said.

Those on the other side of the handshake were no less enthusiastic to hand the cheque to the recipients.

"This is why we do Savour every year. The whole point is to give money back to the community. We are very excited to hand this large contribution to, we think, something that's a great capital project that will leave a long lasting legacy to the residents of Estevan," stated Josh Leblanc, co-chair of the event's committee.

"It's going to be good for everyone in Estevan to have an actual outdoor rink and all season facility. It will be something that benefits everyone, so we're super happy about that."

He noted that this year's occasion went much better than it did in 2016.

"Attendance was down a little bit, but we kind of expected that, just because we had heard some grumblings about the layout last year. We did fix it, and we got nothing but praise and great compliments, so we'll continue to stick with that."

"Vendor numbers were up, so there was a lot more products for people to try out. However, we did hear that we need some more food displays, so we have a different strategy for next year in terms of that as well," he added.

Leblanc also expressed thanks to the community and all of those involved with Savour the Southeast for their assistance and performance.
