Despite cold weather and snow on the ground, officials with the province's parks, culture and sport sector are asking residents to think about the camping season.

Wednesday morning the seasonal campsite lottery is set to open and to begin accepting application forms from interested residents across the province.

"If folks visit our reservation website, they can download an application for a seasonal campground. We have seasonal sites available in 19 different provincial parks and recreation sites," explained Mary-Anne Wihak, Director of Parks, Culture and Sport. "They can fill out as many applications as they want, one for each park that they are interested in potentially camping at."

"The application period runs right from January 3rd on to Thursday, February 1st, and then we make the draw on a park-by-park basis that following Monday, February the 5th."

Due to the high number of interested people, they use a lottery system to determine who will get what site at the various parks across Saskatchewan.

"The random selection draw at every provincial park where we have the seasonal camping program, they will take all of the applications that have been submitted for that particular park. They will assign a number to them, then randomly draw numbers from a bin and start allocating the sites according to the preferences that a camper has given."
