Sirens were heard throughout the Energy City on Wednesday afternoon, as emergency crews responded to a motor vehicle accident at the Highway 47 North and truck bypass intersection. An east bound semi trailer unit collided with a southbound passenger car, and the debris halted traffic for awhile.

"The RCMP are investigating, and they will determine the cause and the major contributing factors. What we do know, however, is that seasonal driving conditions existed at the time of the incident," said Brandy Leippi, Communications Consultant with the Ministry of Highways and Transportation.

"When you have a mild day, with the temperatures warming up, and the wind blowing, icy patches can actually form quickly. Drivers should be aware of that."

She also added that they are regularly examining the safety measures in place at major intersections, such as the one just north of Estevan.

"When there is an area that has a higher than normal amount of collisions, we are always looking at investigating different possibilities, and that is one intersection that we are constantly monitoring," she noted.
