In the eyes of the Southeast Transportation Planning Committee, the future remains bright when it comes to their efforts to keep the issues of the roads of the region in front of the provincial government.

With Estevan MLA Lori Carr named the new Minister of Highways and Infrastructure, Chairman Dennis Moore was ecstatic. The two have known each other for quite awhile, back to when they served together on City council, and now their paths will cross in a new role.

"I think we're very fortunate to have a Minister among us in Estevan, because it'll be hand in hand with what we're doing. When we have the Minister here, you can actually not only talk to them by phone, but you can talk to them in person. You can actually take out for a visual, if they're not aware of what (issue) we're talking about sometimes. I think it'll be a real plus."

"David Marit was a great guy to have on there, because not only is he a farmer but he's hauling his commodities all over his part of the country, and he realizes what it takes to keep the roads in a good, safe condition."

He added that Marit fits his new position of Minister of Agriculture to a 'T', due to his farming experience and knowledge.

There's no set date for when Carr sits down with Moore and his colleagues on the SETPC, however, the latter hope it's sooner rather than later.

"We will certainly be inviting as to a meeting, but I'm thinking right now that she's probably got some larger things that have to be attended to, just to get herself familiar with the organizations. If she gets to us within the next couple meetings, we'll be happy."

"It's a good feeling to know that, right here in Estevan, we've got somebody that can make a difference. She (Carr) loves a challenge, so I'm thinking this'll be a big one, what a way to start. But there's no doubt in my mind that she will be ahead of the run. You give her a chance, she'll be there," Moore concluded.
